merelybookish @Dogearedcopy Exactly! 😁 7y
andrew61 I picked up book 1 in a charity shop a few years ago but never seem to want to start reading it - would you recommend? 7y
merelybookish @andrew61 I think it's worth giving it a go. It's a unique reading experience. You are intimately wrapped up in his life, his thoughts, experiences. It can be dull at times but then very compelling. I can understand not liking it or not progressing past book 1. But there is something about it that draws me in. 7y
vivastory @merelybookish This book is oddly compelling & tedious. The section dealing with his father's death reads almost like a journal for long stretches. The relentless documenting of cleaning his grandparents' house also strangely enough felt like a true & tragic portrayal of grief & anger. It's stuck with me in a way that very few other portrayals of grief have managed. 7y
merelybookish @vivastory Have you read beyond Book 1? I feel like the first two books are particularly loose and raw whereas 3 and 4 are more obviously revisiting in a particular period in his life. They feel a bit more crafted. 7y
merelybookish @vivastory I haven't read book 5 yet. But will eventually. 7y
vivastory @merelybookish No, only the first book. I do want to read all of them eventually 7y
