2 people loved it, 2 people hated it, and the rest was a mixed bag of difficult read but what a smart talented author, poetic writing, different kind of book I nevar would have read unless I was in a book club. All in all a great meeting. #bookclub1

After all the feminine opinions, we all wanted to know what the only guy present at #bookclub1 meeting (vs 14 women), thought about Rebecca. Was she evil or was she a misunderstood woman that wanted to break away from the restrictions of her time?

Bklover And what did he think? 6y
Eugeniavb @Bklover he thought that it was a really good point. That it could have been either! 6y

#bookclub1 drew quite the crowd today, including a history professor and a daughter of Nigerian immigrants. Very interesting discussion!

Pickpick

This is a very good book. Well written, with some beautiful insights, and which sheds light on the fact that a "regular" life can be beautiful too. Now did I enjoy it? There were times when I did. Others, the melancholic helplessness and the constant wondering if things could have been different/better present through most of the book were hard for me at this stage of my life, I guess. It shall be an interesting book to discuss in #bookclub1

#roadreading With book number 2 in the Alexandria quartet, you understand a little more. You get another layer on the story of these intertwining characters. I think I liked it more than Justine; although it is still not an easy read, the Carnival scene is so beautifully described, makes it totally worth it. The whole quartet is my #bookclub1 summer read, so I will keep going.

It's kind of a weird angled pic but this was a special Shakespeare session at my #Bookclub1 we did last night at my kids' school. Staff, parents, grandparents and kids were invited. It fit in perfectly with my #Shakespearechallenge and it was so much fun. We acted out bits and all.

readinginthedark That sounds so fun! I want to have a book club with kids! 6y

Starting this #bookclub1 pick on my 20th anniversary trip! Let's see how it goes.
