An exciting night of intrigue, murder & theft for Conan in a desert oasis town inhabited by cannibals & strange cults.

An opportunity for Howard to demonstrate some of his worst racism, with a seasoning of predatory sexism. Apologists say it's of its time: it's still 💩

My 4⭐ rating is based solely on the fantasy/adventure elements I read Howard for, & that while Conan is, famously, savage, he also isn't as thick as he's sometimes portrayed.

dabbe Wow! What a cover, too! 😱❣️😱 1w
Bookwomble @dabbe It's the 1935 magazine cover in which the story was originally published. The character shown is Zabibi, who is described as being mixed-race and brown skinned, but I guess an accurate depiction may not have sold as well to the target demographic (hence, also, White Jesus? 🤔). Anyway, that aside, the artwork for Weird Tales was frequently incredible. 1w
dabbe @Bookwomble Thanks for the info! The colors are so vivid and jarring at the same time, too! 🤩 1w

I‘m a sucker for “what if...” scenarios, and this book is a high watermark in the genre. In a brilliant set up, Conan finds an amnesiac Diana, champion of a gladiator pit, defeating all challengers. The Cimmerian recognizes Diana as childhood crush from another tribe he thought long dead. They unite to combat witches bent on world conquest. Will they succeed? Will Diana regain her memories? Who is the mysterious girl from Conan‘s youth?

Gail Simone won me over with Clean Room. This team up already had the hook firmly in my mouth because of Conan appearing, but this is just bloody, nerdy fun with some surprisingly deep moments.

Charming, though deeply lightweight, fantasy adventure. Conan and Wonder Woman are not what most folks would call a natural crossover, but Gail Simone‘s love of pulp fantasy history makes this one work better than it should. If you have a thing for Conan comics, you‘ll dig this.

Its got weak villains and plot holes patched over with "uh, magic" but its funny, light and shies away from the sexual assault that Diana would have faced in that world. A little too bloody for kids but barely more than a PG 13.

Happy new #comics day!

1 Wonder Woman ends today with her and Conan (which was really good) and another starts today with her and Batman investigating a murder of a Celtic God in Fairy land.

Doctor Strange Damnation kicks off today with a spinoff from Secret Empire. It's written by Donny Cates so it's a must for me.

Thor & Astonishing X-Men finish off my pulls from the big 2 this week.

GarthRanzz Been waiting for that new Brave and the Bold to start! 7y
GrilledCheeseSamurai @GarthRanzz The art is 😍😍 7y
nosferatoos I wanted to like Damnation more than I did. The art was beautiful but Rod Reis isn‘t doing the second issue and that is so disappointing. 7y

I've been binge reading #graphicnovels during this #litsypartyofone . I haven't read Conan in a very long time. The God In The Bowl and Rogues In The House are both great classic Conan tales. The other four volumes have their high points, but feel like they are missing something. I know this is classic sword and sorcery stuff, but out of six volumes there is only one decent female character.
