#FoodandLit A little behind this month! I found a Bolivian restaurant about 40 min from me. I ordered beef saltenas, pupusas revuelitas and pork chicharron con yuca b/c they ate a lot of pork and yuca in the jungle. The book was good. Looking back it was a sad book after all the jungle adventures but I enjoyed it and was glad to see the main character‘s growth. Bolivia

Israeli Yossi, American Kevin, and Swiss Marcus are mochileros (backpackers) in Bolivia who decide they want to see a real jungle and Indian village. They hire a man, Karl, to guide them through the forest. As the title makes obvious, everything goes terribly wrong. These mochileros have no idea that their enthusiasm isn‘t enough to get them out alive. It is gruesome and harrowing. Yossi lives to write the book—so there‘s that. Yossi spends ⬇️

Texreader what feels like an eternity getting to the hike, especially the relationship between them. But he continues that level of detail throughout, and it seems he wants to do right by the men who started the journey with him to acknowledge what each man went through. Whatever you do, don‘t listen to the audiobook. The narrator doesn‘t sound human (I confirmed it‘s not AI). He over-enunciates (annoying!) and provides almost no emotions. I quit ⬇️ 3w
Texreader the audiobook and checked out the ebook. So glad I did. I recommend it but beware, this is sheer survival mode. If ever one could have almost every bad thing happen, it happened to Yossi. I hope to see the movie Jungle with Daniel Radcliffe now, but I hope it is not so gruesome. #Bolivia #foodandlit @Catsandbooks 3w

A quick #75soft update for @AllDebooks

I‘m really enjoying this! I‘m (loosely) following the framework at https://www.theshabbycreekcottage.com/75soft.html as is - no intentions, no goals, just checking in with each point each day & recognising what I need.

So far, the meditation & journaling have been the real big deals for me - taking time to check in with myself, see how I‘m doing, & look at the things that need addressing.

Thank you ☺️

What a magnificent tale of loss, grief and ethical uncertainty.

Typically, I'm not a fan of the literary genre, but this one really fascinated me.
This enigmatic, heartfelt journey through the Amazon, being immersed in a different culture while grappling with personal inner turmoil just worked for me.

Now I will also need to explore Bel Canto.

Great timing. I‘ve started reading the ebook, having ditched the audiobook. And right off the bat, here‘s Bolivian food from a village in the jungle.

I.cannot.listen.to.this.narrator.anymore.

He over-pronounces every danged consonant. The “t”s are the worst. Hard “t”s. Imagine hearing the word “titillating” with over-pronounced hard “t”s. There‘s no nuance in his narration and until I googled it, I thought it was annoying AI. And no darned pauses between sentences. Sentences are read closer together than words. I‘m so done. Splurging $2 for the ebook. #foodandlit #Bolivia @Catsandbooks

TheBookHippie 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😬 I get that!! 1mo
IriDas Yeah, the lack of pauses were nuts. I had wondered if it was AI as well, but I think it was just edited strangely. I mean, who talks like that? 1mo
Amiable That sounds terrible! 1mo
kspenmoll I hate it when an audio narrator grates on your ears, etc. 1mo

My next audiobook is for #foodandlit #Bolivia. The narration is…not good…. We‘ll see how far I can make it.

@Catsandbooks

vonnie862 Oh no! I was thinking about listening to this one. 1mo
IriDas His voice doesn‘t convey “harrowing.” His voice conveys “happy holiday.” 1mo
Texreader @vonnie862 Id say skip the audio especially based on @IriDas ‘s comment. I haven‘t gotten there yet but I can imagine it with the way his narration is going so far. 1mo

Here we go. Day 1 of Gina Luker's #75soft framework.
I've had a calm morning. I've set my intentions (sounds less stressful than goals, right?).
I really have been 'panic reading' over the last six months. I am tearing through book after book for a distraction. It's not helping. So, I'm going to slow my pace, choose books carefully around mood or curiosity, & read mindfully.

🤞 that works, cos my mind is frazzled rn.

kspenmoll I am joining in with this quest- thank you fir introducing it. Today I enjoyed a calm peaceful morning right after sunrise, listening to bird song & watching my hummingbird friends. Coffee of course! Then a walk with my neighbor, long conversation with 2 other neighbors, visited my garden, then drove to my happy place, the ocean on CT shore & gorged on lobster rolls, fried clams with son & hubby. Perfect day. My challenge will be how to ⬇️ 1mo

Final #roll100 read for Feb and also scored a line in #bookspinbingo recovering from surgery and not being able to do anything has its advantages as gives me lots of reading time!

Really enjoyed this, loved the prose, and there were a couple of twists that I did not see coming. Really interesting subject too.

TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!!! Hope you are on the mend!! 7mo

This one seems to have a lot of mixed reviews, but I loved it. It somehow sucked me in completely, despite some of the maybe farfetched events.

SqueakyChu I agree with you. I really liked this book when I read it (a long time ago!). 8mo
