I love how *full* this world feels. 'This stuff is happening here, that stuff is happening there; this stuff is this story, but that stuff is affecting this stuff.' And then everything escalates a level, and we have to wait for the next book.

esurient Also, was anyone else surprised at first read at how quickly Jean was rescued in this series? I think Bishop's pacing says a lot: Rescue? That's not easy. Recovery? So much harder. 6y
esurient And I love, love, love that Meg's abilities were not the magic-wand solution to finding the baddie here. INTENSE WORK found the baddie. Meg's abilities were indeed useful, but in a more out-of-the-box way. (Intense, tedious, difficult work does not get nearly enough props in fiction, lament.) 6y

I had forgotten just how *well* Bishop wrote the worldbuilding for this series. The setting is so very nicely alive, and so very different from the Urban Fantasy cookie-cutter. Bliss.

Well, that last chapter had me sobbing, and the ending cries out for two sequels and a world of fanfic. Highly recomended.

The snarky humor in this was top-notch, but a multipanel build up does not translate well to Litsy quote posts. You'll have to take my word for it.

I also did not show any quotes of the Shadowchild. I'll leave that for readers to find as a lovely surprise.

Human, hilarious, heartbreaking scifi novella, first in a projected series. I found this riveting and desperatly want to read more, and I'm not even a fan of space opera. #pleasewritemore #dearfavorite
