I *think* the Boxer Rebellion was mentioned in a school history book. Briefly. So glad I read these companion volumes to enlighten me. Yang shows both sides of the Boxer Rebellion, and as always when a nation fights itself, neither side is completely blameless. He does such a great job showing the growth of both MCs and how they come to care about their side of the story. Saints was particularly heartbreaking. #fillinggapsineducation
AmandaL I really liked these two too! 8y
Peddler410 I bought Saints for one of my schools -- already had Boxers. My daughter, 8, read Saints before I could stop her. A lot of it she didn't understand but we had a good conversation about the story. She's in a Chinese Immersion program so we will be revisiting this selection when she gets to middle school. 8y
