The material in this book was very interesting, and was best conveyed to me through the analogies and jazz references. Most of the equations lost me, but even without a background in physics or music theory I still greatly enjoyed reading this

A Brief History of Time | Stephen Hawking

Content-wise, I felt this was more of a review for me, given that I had started my meanderings into cosmology/physics with Brian Greene‘s “The Elegant Universe.” But it‘s not lacking in star appeal (no pun intended)…I‘m a huge fan of Stephen Hawking, RIP. I‘d recommend this short book to anyone wanting their black holes, neutrinos and particle colliders put in introductory lay terms, from a famed theoretical physicist with a sense of humor.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Rovelli is an Italian theoretical physicist and a great writer.. this is my third book of his, and I loved it the most! And we're talking about a book on White Holes, which are completely theoretical and have never been observed and so are based only on mathematical calculations (the same calculations that describe Black Holes).
Maybe it is the continuous reference to Dante Alighieri, but I think this is Rovelli's most poetic work.

AnnCrystal White Holes! Just looked that up, quite fascinating 😉👍. 3mo

I finished The Scarlett Letter early this morning and I've just started White Holes by Carlo Rovelli.. I was listening to the audiobook in the afternoon, doing some chores around the house.

An interesting read. Rovelli brings a sense of poetry and playfulness to a complex topic that makes it engaging and accessible. I think I'd still need another listen (or five) to begin to grasp some of the strands here, but it is worth exploring. (And with Benedict Cumberbatch narrating the audio, I don't mind spending extra time listening!)

monalyisha I‘m sure I‘d feel similarly! 3mo
Sapphire I agree about Benedict Cumberbatch! I found this book originally because one of my favorite authors recommended it on her fb page - Mary Doria Russell. 3mo
TheKidUpstairs @Sapphire I've always looked Rovelli's books at the library and then passed them over, too intimidated, so I appreciate the push to try. I'll definitely read others now. I've never read any of Russell's work either, which is your favourite? 3mo
Sapphire The Sparrow is my favorite and had the most impact on me personally. But Dreamers of the day is timely now with all going on in the Middle East. I loved Doc as well. Each of her books is very different. The sparrow has been called “Jesuits in space” but is also probably the truest to her roots as an anthropologist. 3mo
rabbitprincess Hahaha the Benedict Cumberbatch narration is the reason I have this book 😂 3mo

A trip through most of the major theories of science, focusing on physics, presented in a way we all could understand. A really interesting book.
