This reminded me of “Someone‘s Killing the Children” & the Serial Killer convention in “Sandman”

Picture a town of evil clowns with a blowtorch, murderous puppet boyfriends, “Jigsaw” but less committed, koala-hat-wearing garden fanatic & someone who goes by the Fckmaster.

Lotsa dead law enforcement, some Byzantine kills, an evil granny since we all have one.

This may be a one-off Dark Horse series. Sad if so. I‘d keep following the storyline.

Terrible.
I grew up watching ultra macho war movies, especially those set in Vietnam, so I am not against the genre. But this book tries to sell you the old tale of ‘war is hell‘ plus revenge today for a crime in the past. But the reveal of what the retribution is for, left me hollow inside. Once revealed, the heavily misogynistic themes of the story are understood to be the framework of the entire book, and not a villain to be rejected.

WeAreLegion I should not have used the word ‘misogynistic‘ (as there are no female characters in the book) to define the incident that spawns the revenge central to this story. Instead, I should have said: this narrative is way too simplistic and heavy handed to appropriately engage the conversation about the incident itself. It requires a much more nuanced and mature story. Here, it is reduced to a ‘maguffin‘, used only to move the narrative forward. 2mo

Grateful to a Tumblr post for giving me enough nostalgia to seek out a Calvin &Hobbes collection from my local library. I gather this is a two book set sold in a single case when not part of a library collection, but for my purposes it was two books chock full of marvelous comics. There's something to be said for multiple strip - what I guess would have been multiple day in newspapers - story lines. 1/?

Robotswithpersonality 2/3 I like that while Calvin can be a pest, basically nobody lets him get away with it for long. The sheer volume of original imagination that Watterson channels through this kid. Hobbes is a treasure and Susie is necessary balance. The parents don\'t feel like bland stereotypes inserted just to be irritated either - reading these as an adult probably had me paying more attention to their POV.😏 3mo
Robotswithpersonality 3/3 Hilarious and cheeky and then sweet and touching, verging into profound before veering into ridiculous. I think I\'ll have to see how many other collections my library has, because this was such a lovely experience.

As of this morning, I‘ve officially read every X-Men comic on Marvel Unlimited, again! (I did it six years ago, too.) Took me almost a full year to catch up on the older titles they‘ve digitized since my last subscription ended and the newer ones my library never bought.

I‘ve still got a couple weeks left on my current discounted subscription, so I‘m gonna dig into this non-X-book that‘s still half former X-Men. It‘s a lot of fun so far.

Just a little fun, back in my childhood. Quick read but still enjoyable. #39-2024

A Song Among the Silence isn't in the Litsy database but should be. It's the first book in the Rhythmist Cycle by Julie Janis, and while it's not my favourite book ever, I am intrigued enough by the story to want to read the rest of the series. #38-2024

And just like that, I‘m caught up again.

Larry‘s cousin comes to visit and brings something unexpected with him. It goes about as well as you‘d expect. Gross, violent, and vibrantly illustrated.

RamsFan1963 I read the first 5 or 6 issues of this series. I LOVED the artwork, but the story just wasn't my kind of thing. 7mo
