There is a bit of James Bond style adventure in this book but it‘s really more literary fiction. The book is about Vera, who she is, and how she came to be a spy in Argentina and in general. Chapters alternate between short flashbacks beginning when Vera is 17 and her spying in Argentina. I particularly enjoyed the flashbacks though Argentina was good too.

A funny-sweet slice-of-life novel about Elvis Babbitt and her family as they mourn the death of their mom/wife. Elvis is a really sharp narrator, precocious without being precious or too adult. The other characters (Dad, out-of-control sister Lizzie, chatty parrot Ernest, stray roommate they take in Vanessa, grief counselor Ms Bernstein, zoo doctor Dr Rotherwood) are kooky in that truth-is-stranger-than-fiction way.
