so-soI expected something warm, cosy, & perhaps fluffy, but somehow this was more fluff, less warmth. Dickens was a frustrating character in terms of his fictionalised relationship to a muse figure, & I found this aspect trite & overly-sentimental. I wanted more details about his writing process & the publishing industry in the Victorian era but the book was short on that. The lack of the good stuff makes me want to read The Man Who Invented Christmas.

Ruthiella Have you read the bio of Dickens by Claire Tomalin? Good book which show just how contradictory he was (kinda a d*** a lot of the time).😬 5y
