pickX is the 2017-18 Great Michigan Read. This book is about Malcolm X's childhood in Lansing and Mason (which was fun since I live near Lansing) and follows him through his teens/twenties in Boston and New York. This is excellent historical fiction and gives a different perspective on life in the Great Depression and WWII. The story is written by Malcolm X's daughter, and she does an excellent job of bringing his character to life. #greatmichiganread
