Heart Berries: A Memoir | Terese Mailhot

Pickpick

This ticked two reading challenge prompts off for me. But it was much more than that. Mailhot tells us her life in sentences that pack a punch. Their rhythm was hard to settle into, but once I did, her life story just broke me. And then did it again. She‘s just 35, but has been through way harder times than me, that‘s for sure.

mcipher Hope you are feeling better today!! ❤️ 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @mcipher Thanks, I am. I‘m supposed to go 24 hours without a fever before I can work again. Of course, my temp went up a tiny bit for 30 minutes. So ... I might have to stay home one more day. Seriously, I‘m going stir crazy! (That‘s a good sign though.) 6y
mcipher @BarbaraTheBibliophage At least it‘s good reading time, right?! Ugh that stinks though. Especially if you are feeling well again! 6y

BarbaraTheBibliophage @mcipher Yeah, I‘m reading plenty. And my temp is back up higher again. Waaahhhh. I might need some retail therapy! 6y
mcipher New books to the rescue! 😆 6y
MelissaSue81 I am considering this one for both of these prompts as well! 6y
Cinfhen This book was a real gut punch. I was really relieved that it wasn‘t too many pages...I don‘t think my heart could have handled much more. 6y
Cinfhen I‘m sorry you aren‘t feeling 100% yet 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Cinfhen I agree. She has survived some intense stuff. Hopefully I‘ll make it all day with no fever. I‘m going stir crazy!!! 6y

It‘s taken me awhile to get into the rhythm of this book and audiobook. But now I think I‘ve got it. Maybe.

Suet624 I don‘t know how the audiobook book is, but the print version still lingers in my heart. I loved this book. 6y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Suet624 She‘s growing on me, for sure. I don‘t love the narrator, though. 6y
readordierachel I had trouble with the narrator, too. I switched to print and ended up being really moved by it. I think the narrator doesn't get the pacing or tone right. 6y
Hooked_on_books I didn‘t love this book. I really wanted to, though. 6y
