This is a unique YA novel that tackles some difficult topics/themes including grief & toxic/abusive relationships. This is a book that I feel needed to be written and needs to be read as it reminds us that life isn't neat. Relationships can be complicated and don't always end with a happily ever after. It's important for readers to be exposed to this. Thank you #scholasticinc & #katherinewebber for sharing a copy with the #kidlitexchange network.

Throw Like a Girl | Sarah Henning

I LOVED this book. It has the perfect mix of sports, drama, and romance. I loved the multiple conflicts and plot lines and the message about learning from our mistakes. The narrative voice is engaging and I didn't want to put this book down. There is some cussing and kissing, but I found it to be appropriate for middle school readers.
Thank you to @LittleBrownBooks @thenovl & Sarah Henning for sharing this with the #kidlitexchange network.

The Perfect Secret by @rob_buyea is an excellent sequel to The Perfect Score, which I also read through #kidlitexchange
A lot of issues are tackled in this book and although I first cringed at 300+ pages for a middle grade, I flew through it and I think kids will too!
Recommend for grades 5-8

Thank you to the #kidlitexchange network for the review copy of The Chaos of Now by @erinjadelange Wow! 4 solid ⭐️ from me!

Eli is a very good high school coder who skates by in school. He‘s not popular and mostly unnoticed. He‘s got his best friend and that‘s all he needs. Haver HS was turned upside down last year when Jordan committed suicide in the cafeteria by burning himself. (More in comments)

MrsGreen Since then federal legislation has put a block on any negative social media. (That in itself is an interesting concept.) Eli is approached to join a coding competition team. His involvement in this also means fighting against the bullies that caused Jordan‘s demise. 6y
MrsGreen Toss in an absent dad and a new soon-to-be stepmom, there‘s a lot of character development in this book. I easily fell right in and didn‘t want to put the book down! You can bet this book will be on my high school library shelves when it publishes in October! 6y

Received via #kidlitexchange network for an honest review. This is one of those books that just grabs your heart and never really let‘s go; there‘s a lot of emotion in the story. I absolutely loved that this book took place around the town‘s love of the home team. It was such a great summertime story. Reading it at any time throughout the year will instantly transport the reader to the middle of June and summer vacation. Highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The main character (the girl) drew me in from the start. She had an innocence about her, a precociousness that comes with childhood, but also an underlying sense of understanding and that innate self-preservation mode that comes with a difficult life. Told from the girl‘s perspective, details are shared in a way that only a child can get away with (adds a great emotional dimension). Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

AmbityScambity I received this arc free via #kidlitexchange network for an honest review. It's a "teen" book, but I think it'll appeal more to younger middle-grade readers. 7y

This book is the journey of Eleanor and her family's battle against her dad's cancer. Abby Sher wrote characters that I could relate to and champion. She wrote characters that were human and flawed. I'm thankful for that. She allowed Eleanor to fight back with list making when there was no other way for a child to fight back against cancer.
