My favourite โค๏ธ Austen and my village bookclub February read - couldn‘t resist this stunning ๐คฉ edition with perhaps the most romantic ๐ letter โ๏ธ ever written in literary history from captain wentworth
4 stars: a very good book!
I stayed up way past my bedtime to finish this book! The tension between Anne & Wentworth was palatable on every page, & Austen presents such a poignant & timeless window into the human psyche. I really love how the ultimate burden was placed on the man, how Anne was praised for having listened to her mother figure at first & then showing her independence, &, of course, how love won the day despite the passage of time.
Home sick thanks to the novel coronavirus BUT I‘ve got Jane Austen socks & I‘m all snuggled in with my equally sniffling kiddos, watching the new Persuasionโ it‘s awful but fun to discuss why & just how terrible
I really should not have bought this but I'm also a million percent not sorry in the slightest! #BookHoarder #PemberLittens #NewIn

I finally read Austen again, thanks to a group read invite from @Ann_Reads - and it saved my otherwise rather crappy July reading month. Austen is special and this was one of favorite reading experiences this year.

Oh my! This was exquisite! I loved every page. The regret and the longing by Anne are so powerful and moving. I found myself reading this with my fingers and toes and everything crossed that Anne and Captain Wentworth would finally be together. This is my kind of love story. โฅ๏ธ

Wow. Jane Austen is a legend. The power she holds over me is insane. I decided to annotate this book, and it was the best decision I‘ve made. Moving to the book, it was agonisingly slow, but that‘s what so great about it. I was screaming internally for most of the book, and honestly, I can‘t express to you how much I love this book.

Jane Austen is definitely on her way to becoming my favourite author (if not already).
โThat man is struck with you- and even I, at this moment, see something like Anne Elliot again.โ
There could have been no two hearts so open, no tastes so similar, no feelings of unison, no countenances so beloved. Now they were as strangers - nay, worse than strangers, for they could never become aquatinted. It was perpetual estrangement.
โIf I am a fool, I shall be a fool indeed, for I have thought on the subject more than most men.โ
If I am a fool, I shall be a fool indeed, for I have thought on the subject more than most men.
โIf there is anything disagreeable going on, men are always sure to get out of it,โ
To be claimed as a good, though in an improper style, is at least better than being rejected as no good at all.
I love Austen in general and Persuasion in particular so I was delighted to find this. It was the perfect length to listen to in a workday and I loved the multiple narrators.
She had been forced into prudence in her youth, she learned romance as she grew older - the natural sequel of an unnatural beginning.
Persuasion is really one for the true fans, often too severe to be funny (and occasionally fat-shamey, by the by) and subtle in its treatment of quite dramatic turns. I wouldnโt recommend starting out with this one, if youโre new to Austen, but if youโve already read her others, youโre well placed to give it a go. This is probably my third favorite Jane Austen book, after Northanger Abbey and Pride & Prejudice. I liked Anne Elliot, but her family was a mess! They don‘t deserve her. I saw the Netflix adaptation first and feel Richard E. Grant was perfect as the father. I continued with As The Wicked Watch on my #audiowalk today.
Went for two nice walks today listening to Fox & I. Now I‘m settling in to read Persuasion, which I‘ve never read before. I knew some things about it, but I actually saw the Netflix adaptation first. #audiowalk
So I am here in Bath and thinking the English are very serious about their shrubbery. These shrub balls at my lodging just make me think of Sir Elliot. I am not sure I like the idea of my shubberies being approachable! Also, to me, these look like Critters or the pods full of babies in Aliens. #pemberlittens
I'm rereading this for my movie/bookclub. Though quieter than Jane Austen's other books it might be my favorite.
I liked it - but also wished the premise was handled a little differently. I wasn‘t exactly bored, but I also wasn‘t as interested as I thought I would be. Anne is quite Cinderella-like in my opinion. Surrounded by a wicked family that takes advantage of her, yet being herself of a deeply kind-hearted nature. And somehow that just makes her bland compared to other Austen heroines.
Just a brief public service announcement: The new Netflix version of Persuasion is awful! Anne's character is completely unlike the book. However, Sir Elliot is very funny in his displays of vanity. Anyone else have thoughts about this new version?
Discussing the recent Netflix adaptation of Persuasion with friendsโฆ ๐
Yayโฆ it finally arrived! All of this Persuasion adaptation talk convinced me to splurge on this edition of my favorite novel. Can‘t wait to reread this one again!
Finis. This is my second Austin novel that I have completed and faired much better than my first, Emma. Emma had the effect of disrepute and almost affected my to not read another Austin novel again. After admittedly watching and enjoying the Sanditon series and hearing of the release of Persuasion, I thought I would give Austin another chance, and I am very glad I did, the protagonist Anne has a tenderness one can‘t help finding admirable.
Not feeling well, but at least I have my pretty Jane Austen book ๐ฅฐ
I‘m kind of an Austen slacker. This is only the second of her novels I‘ve read, even as I know only she has that special quietly elegant and playfully ambiguous nuance of expression. I adored Anne, the baron‘s humble disregarded middle daughter, trapped in manner; and I adored her variety of quiet strength. Of course I‘m following a long line here.
I read this now thanks to a Goodreads group led by @Ann_Reads
Still absolutely living for every take from every person who is hate-watching Persuasion so that I don't have to. #PemberLittens
I‘ve commented and posted about my disappointment in the trailer for my beloved Persuasion and originally planned not to watch expecting to hate it but here am I teary eyed over in my opinion the best version of the famous letter and Anne and Fredrick reunion. That song is now on repeat. Did this movie miss the mark with Anne yes!Was the actress who played Mary perfection yes! Were there truly cringe worthy moments and lines? Yes! โฌ๏ธ continued
Thank you @CrowCAH for all the Austen related goodies to celebrate #200pnpcovers, although I can't help but think I should have waited to watch the new Netflix adaptation of the tagged book! I could have drunk my Persuasion tea whilst watching it in a Jane Austen mug! ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
re-read this in anticipation of the movie coming out soon. Wentworth‘s growth as a person/man and love letter is still top tier. Anne is still not necessarily one of my favorites of Austen‘s characters but there is much to be said for Anne and her growth as well. This one has less subtle social commentary than her other books but still a goodie.

My thoughts on the new Persuasion.
#PemberLittens @sprainedbrain
I‘ve seen the mixed reviews (and the massive amounts of burning hatred since the trailer dropped lol)โฆ I do understand why many wouldn‘t like this adaption.
Persuasion is my favorite Austen book (tied with P&P, but I can‘t pick one over the other. I tolerate the 1995 movie, adore the 2007 movieโฆ
I loved this movie. Love the casting, the modernization of language and the fourth-wall breaking.
