This book - both writing and plot - was, as advertised, an absolutely remarkable thing. Highly recommended for fans of both sci fi or just really well written, if not sometimes quirky, fiction.

12/100: ⭐️⭐️⭐️
I know my rating is really middle of the road for this but I really did like it. The story was compelling and Jones does an amazing job of pulling your empathy towards everyone involved in the conflict. The middling rating has nothing to do with the plot or the characters and everything to do with the structure. I wasn‘t crazy about the POV shifts and the overall construction felt inconsistent. Still a must read, tho. #lastsentence

10/100: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ // I almost never reread books but this is my 3rd or 4th reread of this book. I love it so much. James Baldwin is THE quintessential American Writer and his prose is just so breathtakingly beautiful. #lastsentence

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I loved this book way more than I thought I was going to. He last few fantasy books I‘ve read have left me a little cold but man, this was one I did not want to put down. Fair warning, it does end on One Hell of a cliffhanger and I am so anxious about the next book. #lastsentence

DGRachel I nearly freaked out when I read that!! I can‘t believe we have to wait until next January for book two! 7y

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️//This book might honestly make my favorite of all time list. It was absolutely beautiful. I love the interconnectedness of everything. There was such an incredible sense of history in the objects that survived the end of the world, with threads woven and cross crossed and pulling together over the course of the story. #lastsentence

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️//5; so this was an absolutely devastating read. I don't read a ton of YA and I don't usually cry when I read so apparently this book breaks all my norms. The voices are real, the moment in time that it captures is poignant, the stakes are so high. This is a must read for literally everyone. #lastsentence #fivestars #mustread

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️//5; This was such a quick read but not an easy one by any stretch. I've really been loving autobio comics like this one lately, so if there is more manga like this please point me in that direction. The deep dive into the authors mental health hit hard. I had to walk away from the book to process the eating disorder stuff that hit a little to close to home. #fivestars #lastsentence #lastpanel

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️//5; I read this on the plane to DC a few weeks ago and it's probably the fastest I've read a book in a while. I loved it. The story is just as much about the relationship drama in this dysfunctional family as it is about the infamous Borden Murders. And family drama is the stuff I live for. I especially related to Emma in weird and unexpected ways. Definitely recommend. #lastsentence #fourstars

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️// I can't believe I forgot to post this. I LOVED this book. Man-Eating Hippos and a non binary character who is always referred to by neutral pronouns without question? There were parts where the writing got a little repetitive, but honestly I was too invested in the story to really care that much. Its a bundle of classic cowboy tropes with a beautifully diverse cast. I'm counting down the days to the second book. #lastsentence
