Solid way to open a discussion on mercenaries and the Hundred Years War. I especially liked the bit about the blind king of Bohemia insisting on riding into battle entangled with some loyal but benighted cavalrymen. This is what made me snort tho:
“Lying facedown in the mud encased in seventy pounds of armor was a disadvantageous position to be in.”
Well, you don‘t say!
A fun and fast paced science fiction series featuring genetic engineering, super soldiers, found family, and a bit of romance. Each one features a different member of the team with the goal of bringing information and autonomy to the people while taking down the current power structure and staying free with huge bounties in their heads. Look forward to the next book in the series.
#comorosislands #readaroundtheworld An account of a journalist‘s investigations into the coups and assassin attacks on the presidents of the islands in the 70‘s and 80‘s. Frightening look at the role of white mercenaries in the affairs of a small tropical country know for its perfume ingredient exports. Easy reading, but our journalist found many witnesses, all of who are unreliable, so the book is a bit of a Comoros Rashomon.
#readaroundtheworld #comoroislands I was looking for the recommended Fish Caught in Time and found this by the same author about the Comoro Islands, in case anyone is looking for a book for next month.
Nope. Done. Already volume one was only a So-So, but it had some good action scenes and some nice dialogues, so I hoped I would like the second volume more. But nope. I'm done with this series, it's just not for me. The named library isn't of any importance at all, there's too much angst, too much romance, to little action, and sooo much boredom on my side.

Book #4 in the Rachel hatch series. The storyline is getting better. This one was personal for Rachel, even more personal than the last. The John Nighthawk character is interesting…I‘ll have to see if that turns into a spin-off series. I hope that what Rachel does in this book finishes her unresolved issues with her fathers death & leads to new adventures.
