#MMD book club flight pick for October 2022

Hadi and Sama are a Syrian couple deeply in love and living in Boston. She had come to Boston years before chasing dreams of a bigger life; he‘d landed there as a sponsored refugee from a bloody civil war. In 2016, they are tragically separated when Hadi returns to Turkey for his father‘s funeral and is then denied entry back in the U.S. This little book will tug at your heartstrings in a big way.

The Light of the World: A Memoir | Elizabeth Alexander

• ModernMrsDarcy.com #MMD book club pick for March 2022 #MMDBookClub

I was pretty sure that I didn‘t like poetry. I guess the real problem was that I hadn‘t found the right poet for me. Well, Elizabeth Alexander just touched my heart with her words in unimaginable ways.

In The Light of the World, Elizabeth Alexander finds herself at an existential crossroads after the sudden death of her husband.

tokorowilliamwallace Something similar occurred to me with a recommendation of Wislawa Szymborska almost three years ago. Though it probably was mainly the person who recommended and the context of the situation at hand, with the opening of my emotionality and sentimentality which I'm sure allowed for it---perfect storm, so to speak. 9mo

Reading instead of Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore
for • ModernMrsDarcy.com #MMD book club flight pick for February 2022 #MMDBookClub

Not for me at this time.

From the Publisher:
A baker in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, must travel to Paris to uncover a family secret for her dying grandmother—and what she learns may change everything. The Sweetness of Forgetting is the book that made Kristin Harmel an international bestseller.

I hardly ever read self-help books. In fact, I only read them when they are the monthly book club pick for ModernMrsDarcy.com #MMD. I‘m not a big fan but, as self-help books go, this one was pretty good. I mean, how can you not like a book about Joy? I really liked this fresh perspective.

In other words … just sit back and enjoy the story. I‘m not a big fan of Berry‘s writing — too slow and meandering for me. Yet this book is a good look at 1930s rural Americana.

• ModernMrsDarcy.com #MMD flight pick for October 2021 #MMDBookClub

In a timely update of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Ibi Zoboi skillfully balances cultural identity, class, and gentrification against the heady magic of first love in her vibrant reimagining of this beloved classic. A smart, funny, gorgeous retelling of Pride and Prejudice, starring all characters of color. Audiobook read by Elizabeth Acevedo of The Poet X fame. ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫

"Parts of a whole," Linus said. "We all have our issues. I have a spare tire around my middle. His father is Satan. Nothing that can't be worked out if we try hard enough."

Also, if you are near Fort Worth, TX you need to visit Monkey & Dog Books. This is probably one of the most enchanting little bookstores I've been to.
