A Taste of Honey | Kai Ashante Wilson
post image
Pickpick

Y‘all, Kai Ashante Wilson knows what he‘s about. A TASTE OF HONEY isn‘t a deconstruction of Queer Tragedy so much as an affecting commentary on a certain brand of it, viewed from a certain angle, packed into a nonlinear story that blends pseudo-African and pseudo-Roman influences. It came out where I expected it to (because I‘m the best at guessing #modesty), but foreknowledge didn‘t lessen the impact AT ALL. ⬇️

xicanti In fact, it made it heavier because hey, maybe I was deluding myself—and maybe that fit the rest of the package.

I‘m also interested in how Wilson‘s work sits in conversation with the rest of SFF, and with itself, but those thoughts probably stray too far into spoiler territory. And I‘ve gotta wonder if a certain part of the story was a dig at Jeremy Irons.

suzisteffen @xicanti I was like WHAT IS HAPPEN ... ah hah! 5y
xicanti @suzisteffen a while back, Jeremy Irons went on this rant about how he was CONCERNED about gay marriage for the UK because wouldn‘t fathers just start marrying their sons so they could leave everything to them without incurring inheritance tax? The marriage-by-adoption thing put me in mind of that. 5y
suzisteffen @xicanti oh Jeremy Irons WHY 🙃😮😢 5y
Susannah Off(ish) topic, but don‘t you hate when good, serious actors show themselves to be idiots? I‘m often fooled by posh British accents too. 🙄 5y
xicanti @Susannah right? I try not to pay attention to celebrities so I don‘t get disappointed, but some stuff sleeps through anyways. 5y
