“The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.”
This biography tells the story of Amelia Earhart, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. It covers her adventurous spirit, love of aviation, and her mysterious disappearance while attempting to fly around the world.
“She set her airplane down in a cow pasture, 'frightening all the cows.“
This is a great book to use in a classroom for biography reports or school research papers. I would use this when teaching about history and Amelia's accomplishments toward aviation.
This is a very educational and engaging book! Children will love the funny illustrations. It's a great book to get important and quick facts about Amelia's life. Overall easy read for young children.
4 ⭐This book chronicles Sophie Blanchard, the first woman to go solo in a hot air balloon. She was one of the first female aeronauts. Little is known of her life before marrying Jean Pierre Blanchard, a famous aerialist of the time. This is a great beginning look at woman who dared to do what many thought only men could do. Finding out that Sophie died so young, due to a fire and a fall from her balloon, is heartbreaking but also real.

My first completed book for the challenge! I was able to also get it in audio which helped. A low pick, just because this is the kind of nonfiction I find boring and would prefer in long form journalism, rather than a padded out book. But all the stars to Captain Sullenberger and the United Airlines crew. Their professionalism makes me feel more even confident about flying, for sure..
She felt the air turn crisp and cold, like the first taste of fall.
