Found out today that Kyo Maclear and Byron Eggenschwiler (#yycillustrator #acadgrad) have been booked in Calgary by Wordfest...and Owl‘s Nest gets to be the bookseller. I immediately called dibs on working the event so I can get my copy signed!

Check out wordfest.com for info and tickets. (It‘s not listed yet, but will hopefully be up soon.)

Loved this book!

Such a pitch perfect story of how music influences our coming of age. It doesn‘t hurt that our protagonist falls in love with Maria Callas! (Opera fan, here.)

I love how Byron Eggenschwiler (who is from Calgary) illustrates both the feelings behind the different styles of music and the transportive power of “our” genre/artist/song. #yycillustrator #yycbooks

Many thank to Groundwood Books and Ampersand Inc for the sample copy.

bookseller_cate My personal opera crush is the German soprano Diana Damrau. I still hope to see her live one day. I‘ve seen a simulcast of her Violetta (from La Traviata) and was able to meet her in person at a CD signing, but the actual in-the-room performance remains on the bucket list. (edited) 6y
bookseller_cate Here is the first thing I heard Damrau sing. It‘s the Queen of Night from The Magic Flute. A notoriously difficult aria: https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=YuBeBjqKSGQ 6y
Andrea313 I'm so glad to know about this book and am going to have to read it ASAP! Callas was my first opera crush, so that will bring back some feelings. I love Damrau, too; that Queen of the Night is killer. 😍 6y
bookseller_cate @Andrea313 It‘s well worth seeking out. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. 6y
