Automated Alice' is simultaneously a `trequel' [sic] to Lewis Carroll's two `Alice' books and Jeff Noons earlier `Vurt' novels, following the adventures of Alice as she climbs through a clock's workings and gets transported into fantastic adventures in modern day Manchester.

It's a story about a band, about the music they make, and about how things go wrong when the rock and roll life is lived to excess. It's also a story about discovery and loss.

Perhaps taking a touch of inspiration from music theory Noon has all but done away with punctuation and capitalisation here, breaking down the structure of every paragraph and sentence to short, beat-driven snippets of text more akin to song lyrics than prose.

A cyberpunk-noir detective thriller.
Set in a stylized futuristic city where individuals luve in neighbourhoods organically responsive to their moods and lifestyles, the story begins as a routine missing persons case for its narrator, Stark, an irreverent soft-boiled detective who specialises in "finding people, or things."

Possibly my favourite book of all time.
Cool, mind-bending and adventurous.
