Everything I Never Told You is a profoundly intersectional book, one that uses the overlapping interactions of race, gender, and sexuality—alongside an intricate, surprising, expertly crafted plot—to tell a moving story that left a deep impression.

MrBook I met her and we had a nice chat. Signed my copy for me, which is currently wrapped securely in a box that needs unpacked from my move. 8y

Not quite done with this yet, but it's already at the top of my best-of-2016 list. Wonderful!

This charming, thoughtful, and affecting book tells the story of the first black woman to attend Vassar, passing as a white woman. Tanabe tells a rich story about race, gender, education, love, and belonging in the Gilded Age.

BookishClaire Can't wait to read this! 9y
