A tale of Italy during the last days of Mussolini. Interesting characters, great descriptions of the waning days of the German occupation but after awhile, just didn't have much interest in what happened to anyone.

An incredibly worthwhile book! About USS HOUSTON, how she was sunk and the brave actions of her crew. Some survivors were forced to work to build the Japanese railway in Burma while others toiled in Japan. Much like "Unbroken," sometimes a tough read, but important as a reminder of man's endurance. Hornfischer has once again brought to life a relatively small bit of history in an informative, balanced and extremely readable book.

What a thoughtful and thought provoking book! I wish I had been able to read it while my Mom was able to participate in the discussions... but it has allowed me and my friends to think about what we want and given us a forum to express our desires.

What a great book! One my favorite military history books. A thrilling story that is all true and reminds you of the sacrifices these warriors made.
