I did not even know of the Japanese internment. As a story, however, I simply didn't think it worked. The romance took center-stage, rather than the difficulties of the Japanese caught up in that dreadful situation. Most of it was too emotional. And in spite of the changes in the environments, the failure to add more characters and more perspectives to the story left it feeling a little lacking in depth.
