Very thorough. Gives very good view of Medieval life broken down into the relevant pieces - Aristocracy, Common Folk, Religion, Towns/Villages, and Cities. Good survey of life in all its facets for the 12th & 13th centuries. Not a romantic overview of “knights in shining armor” but is a nitty-gritty view of living in medieval times.

Outstanding book & story. Fills lot of the void on code breaking during WWII. Not just the enormous contribution made by thousands of women but the actual ordeal & life-saving achievement their success produced. Very detailed; down to names & relationships. Just an excellent book not only for the WWII buff but the general reader as well. Highly recommended!

Good story, fast-paced, couldn‘t put it down. Supposed to be a story about women & their strength/ability. But at the key scene, when Isabelle‘s father comes into the room where she is being interrogated by the Gestapo, to confess he is “The Nightingale,” the book fails by letting that false confession succeed. No recognition of Isabelle‘s true role in spite of being a woman invalidates the premise.
