I want to write something brilliant to describe my time with this book. I want to reach in my mind and find the precise words to express the feelings this book made me feel. Alas, I am left wanting. Suffice it to say, "She Would Be King" is one of the best books I've read this year. The book was so handsomely written it should be read out loud. I can only hope Ms. Moore is somewhere dreaming up her next novel.

This is Baldwin. This is EXCELLENT.
In this story family is a verb, love is a burden and struggle is real life. Read this book if you believe everything has a happy ending. It will change your mind. Sometimes things just end, not happy, not sad, just so.

Imagine the book/t.v. series "Roots" set in the future on a huge space ship that has been floating around in space for 300+ years, opening right on the cusp of a "Nat Turnerish" slave rebellion and you've got this book. I can not say I "enjoyed" reading this book in the happy feel good way saying you "enjoy" a piece of fruit or a back rub, but I was thoroughly engaged and drawn into this book. I was moved by the characters their relationships.

Mehso-so

I was so excited about the possibility of this story after watching the book trailer weeks before the book was released. However, reading it left me a little underwhelmed. I found the actual "bones" of the story to be intriguing but the presentation to be flat. It never quite got of to a running start. I didn't find any of the characters truly interesting. Also, the ending literally came out of nowhere without any real explanation.

Lyrical. This must be what a real sturdy "blues song" would read like if you stretched it out into a novel. A solid blues song one with "good bones". One complete with melancholy, sentimental moods, autumn despair, winter longing, scar tissued hearts, calloused love, forgotten dreams, so much regret, but yet life. This book made me breathe slow and deep, made me catch in my throat...I hope you love this book like I did.
