I‘ve always been captivated by how graceful & connected Barack Obama comes across when he speaks..he writes the same way. The book is very interesting if you‘d like to know about his beginnings. However, that is not the reason I was interested in reading. More so to relate to the consequences of an absent father. I bailed after his time in Chicago ends. I began to lose interest and found myself bored so I chose to move on. I do recommend though!

A HS coach deeply connected to basketball and Marshall HS in Chicago is paralyzed after a mistaken identity shooting. Shawn‘s struggles, courage & character are showcased. Rus is a recruiter from a college Shawn attended who did not have his best interest in mind..fast forward 20 years and he is his biggest support. The jump from story to story does not flow and therefore leaves the reader confused. Bball lingo is extensive although expected.

Although Fred‘s legacy and life is owed this book, & it is intriguing to learn of his history from first hand accounts...the book is difficult to read as there are too many people named to keep straight. Perhaps it‘s the way it is written. It also intersects w/ the authors life quite a bit considering he only knew Fred personally for a short period of time (but it is my understanding he kept a relationship with the family due to a lengthy trial)
