This was a quirky historical fiction with some fantasy elements. While I did find it to be an enjoyable read, I found the narration and Easter eggs placed throughout kept pulling me back to reality instead of pulling me into the book.

I rarely see poverty, substance use disorder, & small towns rep'ed in books & typically, it's crappy rep. This book handles those topics well.
This book follows Skye as she tries to escape her small town, her heart heavy at the idea of leaving her mother behind to deal with her addiction & poverty. Skye also feels her connection to the town grow stronger as she begins to fall for a returned soilder with an amputated leg & PTSD.

This was the perfect book to pick up and get me in the mood for autumnal reading. I enjoyed all the creepy twists and turns as the story unfolded. This was a fantastic retelling of Macbeth with a f/f lead. A must read, in my opinion.
