This book provides such a great, real look at Detroit. We all know the city went bankrupt, and we hear the feel-good stories about the city's so-called resurrection. What we don't hear about is how broken the system is and how it most impacts the people who live in the neighborhoods being overlooked - those enshrouded in poverty and blight. Very insightful - highly recommend if you are at all interested in the recent history of the Motor City.

I wanted to like this SO much – and there were bits that were good, but I just never really got into it. 😕 I think I am realizing I don‘t love essay books so maybe it‘s just me. I will say, the constant reminders that she wrote Shrill and they made a show about it did get a little obnoxious for me, however, a lot of her overall messaging was on point and relevant. #disappointed #checkedofftbr

Seriously, read this book! The overarching story about sexual assault and harassment by men in power is a sort of recap of the reporting we have seen. However, the story of cover-ups and attempts to thwart accurate news reporting is also appalling. It is important to support journalist who strive to keep the integrity if the business alive! #mustread

I was so excited to read this! I will say at times the writing, or perhaps the translations felt clumsy. The story was well developed and felt relevant to recent events, however, the ending seemed a bit abrupt and forced. All that aside, it's still a good read and I did enjoy it a lot. 👍 Hoping this is not the last of the series, as has been rumored. #millenniumseries #mostanticipated #worththewait
