Finished this tonight. It was pretty good and I flew right through it. It‘s about Savannah who‘s struggling to care for her brother after her mom abandoned the family. The love story was ok but eh.
This book is really special to me because my parents used to read it to me when I was little. It was a book with my name in it so I was really able to relate to it when I was younger. The pictures in this book are amazing because they show all of the thins that are happening in the story. They are painted in a really bright and abstract way. There are so many colors on every page. This book is great to use to talk about what to do when angry.
This book is about a girl named Sophie who gets in a fight with her sister and gets really, REALLY angry. She throws a tantrum and runs away. She walks, cries, listens, feels, and eventually she feels better.
“She feels the breeze blow her hair. She watches the water and the waves. The wide world comforts her.”
I would use this in my classroom to demonstrate that it‘s okay to get angry but when we do we need to learn how to control it and calm our bodies.
When Sophie Gets Angry— Really, Really Angry… by Molly Bang was published in 1999 and was awarded the Caldecott Honors Award in 2000. This picture book is about a little girl who doesn‘t want to share with her sister. It makes her so angry she goes on a long run and climbs to the top of a tree where she can calm herself down. When she is done taking it all in she climbs back down and heads home to her family.
The wide world comforts her.
What comforts you when you are angry?
