“Effective validation has two components: It identifies a specific emotion; It offers justification for feeling that emotion”
“... validation (in the context of interpersonal skills, anyway) is the act of recognizing and affirming the validity or worth of a person‘s emotions. Essentially, validation means saying to someone, “I hear you. I get what you‘re feeling, and it‘s perfectly alright to feel that way.””
“... validation is critical for building healthy, satisfying relationships. What‘s more, it‘s critical for any relationship, romantic or otherwise. Thus, the core idea of this book is that, in order to become a “great listener,” you actually need to become a great validator.”
“They listen, seek to understand, and then validate. That third point is the secret sauce—the magic ingredient.”
I enjoyed this book. The writing isn‘t as compelling as The Nightingale or All the Light We Cannot See, but the story is just as amazing. That this book is based on a true story about a real person makes it a must-read in my opinion.
“Forgive an old man his memories,” Pino said. “Some loves never die.”
“We can do anything we want,” Pino said. “Life is limitless.”
“We can chase happiness, live passionately?”
“Is that really all you want? To chase happiness, and live passionately?”
“Can you imagine any other way to do it?” - Pino/Anna
“But you are so full of love for me, it beams from you, makes me feel beautiful, which makes you beautiful to me.” - Anna to Pino ♥️
“Maybe that‘s all it takes for the future to exist, Pino thought. You must imagine it first. You must dream it first.”
“They caressed, they joined, and in that first ecstasy, Pino felt himself fuse with Anna‘s soul as deeply as her body.” ♥️
“The best thing is to grieve for the people you loved and lost, and then welcome and love the new people life puts in front of you.” - Anna
“You have to find some happiness in your life, and just do your best with the rest.” - Anna
““How do you find happiness?” Anna paused, then said, “You start by looking right around you for the blessings you have. When you find them, be grateful.” Pino/Anna
“Sometimes happiness comes to us. But usually you have to seek it out. I read that somewhere.” - Anna
