More adventures in 3D printing bookmarks.
I designed a bookmark with the 3D printer. Gonna print a more finalized pretty version tomorrow.

As a fantasy comic with blood, humor, tons of profanity, badass ladies, female friendship, and a lesbian character, this was naturally right up my alley.
I picked this up at BookCon, and am finally getting around to reading it. Definitely glad I grabbed it (and a tote) from the Image Comics booth.
I got about 100 pages in, and still couldn't find enough interest or motivation to keep going. It just seems to stretch on and on. For a while I thought we were going to jump into the thick of the plot, but then the brakes were slammed and things just puttered along again.
If you like Deadpool, you'll probably like this. I think it's cool to see Deadpool drift into a more serious but still humorous arc every once in a while.
I actually find this hilarious, given that we also know Deadpool has been a hardcore Harry Potter fan since the books were published. But also yeah, quite often libraries are intimidating and exclusionary.
A few more chapters in, and things seem to be going more smoothly. That beginning is still rough, though. The POV shift (and plot details beyond the vague usual important person of prophecy) help. The vocabulary and descriptions are also kinda improving.
I'm a few chapters in, and kinda wondering why this is adult and not YA. Which I say as a teen librarian. There's too many internal explanations (as adults, we don't need so much narration to explain her home life, and can understand with scenes showing the situation), and not enough of what you need there to be more narration of (Why did we not read about her getting her wings? Feels like a chapter or two was torn out from the beginning).
The release date for this is actually a couple days from now, but we already have it, so I'm excited. It's another one of my collection development recommendations.
I got a $25 Barnes and Noble gift card for my birthday, except... I don't shop there much, ever since they got rid of their in-store LGBT fiction (which prompted me to start supporting LGBT online booksellers instead). So if you put me in B&N, I'm really just going to end up in the Deadpool part of the comics section.
Cleaned enough crap in my room that I finally have a reading chair again. And not a glorified bowl of clothing.
I'm on a mission to add a slew of lesbian fantasy and science fiction to our teen section.
It is nice to see a YA book breaking down the assumption that being a loud smartass all the time makes you cool, persuasive, and a leader. Don't get me wrong, I love snark, but I also know that it's not the most effective way to get what you want in life (and that there is a difference between standing up and being arrogant).
Anyone who likes RvB will love this. There is plenty of fun bonus content, the humor you expect with RvB, and clarifying information (LIKE WHAT HAPPENED TO JUNIOR). Personally, I especially loved reading about the history and creative process behind making RvB.
Guess whose state really hates their governor right now...
I've had a migraine running for over a week now, making any reading or gaming difficult, so I'm switching to audio for a while. This is a great read (listen?), and for someone who doesn't really do audio, an enjoyable narrating voice.
Beautiful artwork for the final issue of the first arc of Insexts.
As a fangirl I wanted to enjoy this, and found plenty of useful information, but as a lesbian fangirl several parts felt tokenizing to marginalized populations (most of our mention is in the glossary, rarely elsewhere, even though we have vibrant fandom lives), or just made me uncomfortable (including sexualizing male/male slash because "two hot guys," while ironically later defining "objectification"). So I have to go with so-so, since YMMV.
"Yeah, none of these fandoms really describe me-"
*turns page and questions what I've turned my desk into*
Just because so far there is no cover image given, and this is a fricking adorable cover.
Guess what the Bold Strokes Books daily bargain is... a few days after I picked it up from the library...
While I enjoyed the premise (it was, no spoilers, a very creative plot as far as fairytale retellings go), it would have benefitted from more editing. There were occasional mistakes that stood out. The pacing was odd at times, waxing between glossing over would-be characterizing moments, and then massively dumping explanations later on (particularly close to the end).
