Sydney‘s story of how he grew up is heartbreaking. However, he begins to find his way around he seems to have lost his identity and the book rambles on quite a bit…. which makes it hard to follow.

I‘ve been revisiting this book for sometime now. It‘s too intense to finish in one session. I‘d definitely recommend it to anyone who has gone through trauma or anyone trying to understand another person/colleague/friend.
Best book to start the year. Brené has a lot of wisdom and I will definitely revisit ❤️
I enjoyed the book, I reflected a lot about my family generational traditions, recipes and culture. How our journey even as siblings differs. I enjoyed the different twist and turns, apart from the ending 🫣
Thank you Viola for your vulnerability in this book. Thanks you for validating every minute of being a dark skinned black woman. We see ourselves on many different parts of your journey. This is the best book I‘ve read in 2022. 10/10!!
Very intense and emotive book. I loved the way the book was written.
I listened to this book on audiobook and I should definitely get a copy ❤️ I loved every page…. The writing style has depth and the chapters unravel a deeper side of the story each time. It is based on the book of Hosea from the Bible and touches on faith, all-consuming love and forgiveness. I‘ve been shaken and one of the BEST BOOKS I HAVE EVER READ 👌🏾
This book is 🔥 🔥 it takes the reader on a roller coaster ride of emotions. Feeling sympathy towards the sisters and being mad at them at the same time. There is so much truth written on our social bias towards “pretty girls” and how ‘different‘ siblings can be and the sometimes self appointed protective role that first borns have. I highly recommend it ❤️
I finished this one a while ago & never got around to reviewing it🥺. It‘s always such a bad idea because I have to really need to apply my mind & remember the details. So here goes. I generally liked it and I‘m glad I read it during the beginning of the year. I kept making notes and highlighting most pages. However, it was a bit all over the show (on content). The author wanted to touch on too many topics at the expense of loosing the reader.
It was a tough and confusing book, I found it hard to connect with all the “spirits” narrated by author. However, that‘s not the reason I bailed
I bailed because life happened, time froze....and death happened and my world was turned upside down🖤
Ps: I honestly don‘t even know where the book is
I only started to really enjoy this book after the first two chapters and I loved the ending & the reflection moments (& every single page thereafter). This is an extraordinary story that will inspire entrepreneurs & individuals to keep going. I also enjoyed the honesty about how some success stories are born from...luck vs coincidence vs intuition vs destiny and having the right team (playing to their strengths -from employee no.1) 👟loved it ❤️
Honestly the worst book I have read this year. I really do not know what the book is about because the author grabbed and mentioned various characters. The writing style is unnecessarily descriptive and left me frustrated.
Loved it...it‘s a go to guide that every girl should read. Crucial conversations and I learnt a lot...even on things that we should “unlearn” as females
“I now know that it is true that children learn from adults. Most of the time one doesn‘t need a blackboard or books to teach young minds; they learn through example; they mimic”.......very true 🤔
Although it‘s not 100% pick: I am glad, I read this book. It‘s a sad tail of events and left me with more questions than answers for the characters. I was surprised that it was based on true life events💔. As painful as it was, there were parts that left me detached aswell....so many unknowns. This was an easy read...overall ☺️well done Thuli
Loved it...this book made me appreciate my African roots and kept me intrigued. The characters remained gripping throughout their travels. I found a new love for Nigerian food and an understanding for Igbo people. Chimamanda is a talented and impressive writer. The guardian is spot on: it will either make you change or change the way you look at the world 🥰
Very well written, I loved how @Tayari Jones was able to bring all the characters to life. There are so many emotions that you feel for each character and their journey. From marriage, race, justice....to hope, this book has had me searching for more.
Very insightful...I highlighted most parts 📝I will definitely review this book and implement all the learnings
I enjoyed this book with my favorite merlot 🍷
Loved the humor...and interaction with the reader. Very easy read. Enjoyed it...some parts we not too entertained and I could not relate to (e.g high school experience)
