Annihilation | Jeff VanderMeer
Pickpick

I read this book in two days because of how intriguing Area X but I do feel it lost me a bit in the last third. I really enjoyed the narration from the main character's point of view. Also this is not a novel full of heroes but humans with flaws and aspirations under extreme conditions which I appreciated. For me the best thing about this novel is the idea of Area X and the mistery behind it, and for that is worth reading. 4 🌟

I basically watched the trailer and thought "That looks, amazing can't wait to watch it!". So as soon as I found out it was based on a novel I decided to check it out. I basically can't put it down ? So far so good! ?

Trevor Noah is a great story teller. His construction of every chapter is engaging and makes it very difficult to put it down. I loved every page. Some parts are sweet and very funny others are more tough and sad. To sum up a great memoir and a very interesting portrait of Southafrica during and after the apartheid. 5🌟

I was enjoying this book a lot but had so much work that had to pause it for some weeks. Today I'm back at it 🙌

The Moving Toyshop | Edmund Crispin

I want to add this blurb to really underline how well Crispin describes Oxford's atmosphere. I really really enjoyed the intellectual talks they have, the witty arrogance and the constant reference to literature. A very important part of Oxford's life for me was that mix of charming and conceit attitude everyone had, it was inspiring and annoying at the same time. Really made me miss my days at that magic city

This book was exactly what I was looking for. Exciting and engaging but also witty and sarcastic. Is one of the best detective novels I've read because of how much I enjoyed the two main characters, and the great rhythm of the book. The solution to the mystery was a bit disappointing to me but the book as a whole is fantastic. I have to admit that I'm a bit bias because I used to live in Oxford so to me the setting was familiar and nostalgic 4.5🌟

I loved loved loved this book. The story is very touching and the characters feel real and relatable. It's a lovely reflection on what home means and what implies to grow up and change. I might have read it being a bit too young (I was 16) but still it deeply moved me and I know I'll come back to it. 5🌟

Exit West: A Novel | Mohsin Hamid
Pickpick

This story is not just moving and exceptionally well writen but also necessary. In a world where refugees and immigrants are being persecuted and forced to constantly flee and start over this book gives a face to all that suffering, and inside and a context.Hamid reminds us of the importance of regarding those who run away from their country as humans an forget of labels and imagined boarders. I feel it should be complusory reading in schools 5🌟

Finis mundi | Laura Gallego Garcia
Pickpick

Laura Gallego was my favorite author during my late childhood and teenage. This book is in my opinion a perfect mix of mistery and adventure but it is also a story full of deeper meaning. Without being loud or too obvious the Finis Mundi helps teens to develp their own values and principles. 4.75/5 🌟

I enjoyed the first half of the book a lot more than the second half. In general it is a good read but I felt some parts were too slow and didn't do much to the plot. More action and less love intetest wouldn't have hurt at all. I think I will try the second part in couple of months but I'm not super motivated about it. 3.75/5 🌟

A good friend and I exchanged our favorite books and this was his gift to me. Lately I have started reading fantasy books again precisely because this friend recomended me Neverwhere. I enjoyed it so much I picked up another fantasy novel, Seraphina, and loved it too. I find so conforting to travel to this unique and far far away worlds I couldn't wait to get absorved by a new magic universe. Many thanks to my friend ❤

Seraphina | Rachel Hartman
Pickpick

Seraphina has been a great read. I needed a distraction but I couldn't imagine this book would become one of the best fantasy books I've read. It reminded me of a book I had read in my early teens and loved but to be honest I found Seraphina to have place in a much more complex universe, with problems that seem really close to our reality nowadays. Also I wanted to point out this is a fantasy book for all ages! 100% recommended 4.5/5 🌟

It's been a long time since I have read a fantasy novel - I wouldn't describe Amatka as fantasy- and I had forgotten how much I loved it. Specially when it's a fantasy novel as addictive as this one!

The Princess Diarist | Carrie Fisher
Mehso-so

I was really excited about reading this book. I had high expectations -always a problem- and although the chapter on Ford and her youth poems met my expectations the rest of the book was not as exciting. This has been the first book by Fisher I've read and although I have loved her as narrator I feel this enjoyable mix of thoughts and annecdotes (all seasoned with Carrie's wittiness) losses purpose with every chapter. 3/5 🌟

Amazing poem! I feel although being a vulnerable, selfconcious teenager (as she shows in most of her poems) Carrie had an incredibly strong voice as a writer. Her sharpness and sarcasm are adictive.

Amatka | Karin Tidbeck
Mehso-so

First of all I really loved how the world of Amatka was constructed in the book, the atmosphere, the tension. Only for that I feel this book deserves being a pick. However the last 25 pages were not at all consistent with the previous chapters. Instead of finding closure this great story just vanishes in chaos and that for me is a great loss because until that point I was enjoying it a lot. A min of silence for what should have been a pick 3.5/5🌟
