I loved this book. The world created by Fran Wilde is utterly compelling and unique. Kirit, the main character is strong, at times willful but always brave. Highly recommend if you want something different. I can't wait for the sequel!

While I already have a copy, purchased at the Bookmarks festival and signed no less, I'm tempted by the exclusive B&N edition because of the art! What's a girl to do?

Closed September with this lovely book that reads almost like a fairy tale for our times. Partly a redemption tale, partly a rumination on loss and grief, it will tug at your heart without being too obvious about it. There's an added bonus for those who like cars, especially Saabs and Volvos.

I really wanted to like this book bec of all the great reviews but couldn't get into it. There are some great passages particularly the descriptions of the restaurant during service but it lags behind in character development. It's hard to root for the main character or any of them for that matter.

He was a man of black and white.
And she was color. All the color he had.
The only thing he had ever loved until he saw her was numbers.

IFor some reason, I thought this would be a great beach read. I loved it but it was considerably more dense and thought provoking than the normal beach read. This book is insightful and full of important ideas with a sly wit most evident in the blog entries written by Ifemelu, the main character. A great book to dive into and get lost in.
