Finished A Gentleman in Moscow before I finished my drink. My other current read, Shrill, is delightful, but it's too big of a tonal leap. It's too close to bedtime to start something new. What to do?! #readerproblems

It took me a while to get into it, but I ended up enjoying it very much. Count Rostov is a wonderful protagonist to spend time with. Overall, not as good as Rules of Civility, but very good all the same. it isn't fair for an investment banker to craft prose this well, though.
I subscribed last week, and my first issue just arrived. Book mail is the best mail!
Even though I was enjoying it when I would actually sit with it, I was crawling through it. It was due back to the library, and I had a much anticipated book waiting for me, so I had to bail. I'm sorry, everyone I trust who swore up and down that I'd love it! It's not the book; it's me! I'll try again sometime.
Sorry, Queen of the Night, but you are due back, and this beauty was waiting on my desk this afternoon.
A couple travels to Oaxaca for her sabbatical after he is laid off. She is revisiting her past, and he is trying to regain his footing. I probably set my expectations too high based on its winning the Eisner award for best graphic novel. I loved the interludes- both the butterfly interludes and the portions of Samantha's book that we see. The main plot, though, just didn't do it for me.
Honestly, I wouldn't mind if the butterfly interludes were the bulk of the book.
Only 294?! I am enjoying this book, but I am crawling through it. I can't figure out why.
Funny and fun to read aloud. Made me wish I still led storytimes at work.
