For a week or so the wind played with the island, patting it, stroking it, humming to itself among the bare branches. Then there was a lull, a few days' strange calm; suddenly, when you least expected it, the wind would be back. But it was a changed wind, a mad, hooting, bellowing wind that leaped down on the island and tried to blow it into the sea.
SFM13 I loved reading Gerald's humorous anecdotes, my favorite was the blow-by-blow account of a battle between a gecko named Geronimo and Cecily, a feisty praying mantis. His enchanting way of describing island scenery really brought the story to life for me. Here is an example of his writing style … easily relatable considering the mountain winds that blew outside my window as I lay reading, snug in my warm cozy bed. 4y
