Shutter Island | Dennis Lehane

Pickpick

“Shutter Island” by Dennis Lehane is about Marshal Edward “Teddy” Daniel and his partner, Chuck Aule who go on a fairy to Shutter Island, the home of Ashecliffe hospital for the criminally insane, to investigate the disappearance of a patient, Rachel Solando (who was incarcerated for drowning her three children). Despite being kept in a locked cell under constant supervision she has escaped the hospital, But quickly things change for the worse.

Thicdaddy Not the main theme of the book but my favourite theme I picked up on was Grief. Many of the characters in the book suffer from Grief over lost loved ones. Teddy, most obviously suffers from the memory of his wife Dolores, while chuck suffers angrily from the memory of his girlfriends internment. Rachel Solando has been driven mad by the grief of her husbands death, and grief for the loss of the children who she killed. 2y
Thicdaddy I would recommend this novel to people who love putting the pieces together as it is a perfect psychological thriller if you enjoy the book or movie of “American Psycho” I would definitely recommend you give this one a read. 2y
Thicdaddy I would rate Shutter Island 9.8/10 as it has a phenomenal main character, very unique plot, keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the whole read and at the end has you in awe of the entire story with all the the plot twists. It‘s not a 10/10 for me because at times it‘s almost too hard to follow. The story is in first person point of view of the protagonist Teddy Daniels 2y
MissYaremcio Thank you for the review Austin. 6/6 2y

'Salem's Lot | Stephen King

Pickpick

“Salems Lot” by Steven King is about a man named Ben Mears who has returned to his hometown Jerusalems Lot to explore the history of the Marsten house. A old large house that is the subject of story‘s that may or may not be true and will help him with inspiration for his new book. But when two young boys travel into the woods and only one returns alive Mears begins to understand that something evil is at work.

Thicdaddy I would recommend this book to a specific audience who enjoys horror story‘s that is not scared easily as it is a very unnerving story so far. 2y
Thicdaddy My first theme present in the story is Good vs Evil. The vampires in the story are evil, their list of blood is enough to prove my point right there. However, sometimes the vampires seem like they are a metaphor for other evil things such as: sex perverts like Hubie Marsten or other small town evil such as adultery, child beating, greed etc. 2y
Thicdaddy The second theme is Mortality. Just about everybody dies in Salems lot. Good guys, bad guys and people in the middle, They all get taken out by murder, suicide, heart attacks etc. Some people die once and stay dead other folks come back to life and some die again. In the book death can be looked at as terrifying and also beautiful as the novel shows that if you could just get to death you wouldn‘t need to be afraid of it. 2y
Thicdaddy I‘ve read this book before and my rating of it would be 9.6 out of 10 the only thing I could take away from it would be the pacing at times it got a little drug out but the characters, story and themes all are basically perfect. 2y
MissYaremcio Nicely done Austin! Cute pupper! 5.5/6 - I don't think I would enjoy this book myself... right? 2y
