In The Giver, the main character is a boy named Jonas. He lives in a strict, future society where there is no pain, hatred, war, or prejudice. Everyone gets a profession when they come of age, and he gets selected to be a Receiver of Memory, which is a big deal. An old guy named The Giver gives him all of the memories. This includes both good and bad memories.
