Open minds would love. Goodreads reports that skeptics find it “dangerous woo woo bullshit”. (While skepticism is a valuable tool, I find it interesting that some seem to dismiss experience as irrelevant when thinking critically. I would describe myself as an intelligent critical thinker. However, I think that my experience of reality is a damn compelling piece of evidence when learning about how the universe works.✨)

I read this after reading “Becoming Supernatural”. It wasn‘t as mind blowing, but I‘ve noticed significant changes in my mental health and life since implementing the meditations. 🧘🏼‍♀️

Damn. Those inspirational Steve Jobs quotes carry an extra layer for me now. So far, a heartbreaking story that is brilliantly written.

I love Broad City. Love Abbi Jacobson. Loved listening to this. I highly recommend this on audio because I don‘t think there‘s a better way to consume this story other than straight from the mouth of the author herself. She‘s funny, smart, strong, and her insecurities are almost too relatable. It also left me feeling inspired to pursue creative endeavors with less fear.

This is my second time reading this in the past 3 months. Without laying the woo down too thick, the meditation techniques have been the most powerful I‘ve ever encountered. Highly recommend for open minds.

Thompson quotes Ian Stewart: “If our brains were simple enough for us to understand them, we'd be so simple that we couldn't.” This is a fascinating exploration of bizarre brain conditions and what they can teach us about consciousness. From Cotard‘s Syndrome to extreme personality changes after injury to hypersensitive empathetic synesthesia, I could not put it down!

I'd recommend this for anyone feeling stuck in their creative endeavors. Gilbert has a lot of counter-intuitive advice that inspires by taking the freaking pressure off!

"Bryan, meanwhile, was assailing my equanimity with his testiness...One night, lit with kava courage, I announced that I was sick of walking on eggs around him. He announced, astonished, that HE was sick of walking on eggs around ME. We hiked back to camp under a gibbous moon in a jolly mood. I said I hoped his tent was full of scorpions. He hoped I fell out of my hammock. The expression, anyway, was walking on eggshells, not eggs."

I expected this to be more about cult-like religions than football, but ultimately there isn't a better way to describe the hardcore football culture in the South. A beautiful story of a man that does everything that is expected from him, achieves the traditional American dream, and then realizes he's been running in the opposite direction of happiness for thirty years.

??? Where's the "mind-blown" emoji when you need it? Just a couple of chapters in and my Friday night plans have been confirmed. (I will not answer texts, calls, or emails for the rest of the evening K THANX.)

The feminist and dystopian themes are tempting, but an ending in which the heroine is saved by both her husband AND Italian lover is a gut punch to the empowered woman. As though to say, "In a world run by men, we can only hope to saved by men. Handsome ones that are great in bed. Some with accents." ??
