Reading this book felt like solving a psychological enigma in the end I could see how the parents upbringing and the things experienced by Lydia and her siblings drove her to the point of no return. There a lot of underlying messages about race relations,family dynamics and mental health.
It‘s not a difficult read yet offers a thrilling plot.

Reading this book was a bit overwhelming it talks about the current immigration crisis by telling the story of a “weird” family.
The relationships are complex and there is a lot of beauty in the language, tone and references however it‘s too MUCH.
This book left me drained there are too many underlying messages making it really hard to follow wouldn‘t appeal to most people I feel like you would have to be some type of humanities aficionado.

Reading this book was a journey😰 Whitehead talks about racial injustice through Elwood‘s time in a juvenile center called Nickel Academy.
The storyline is straight up unpredictable, Whitehead was very skilled in ensuring that as a reader you experience things through Elwood‘s eyes. The writing is heartfelt and very descriptive and it can be triggering. I finished reading a few hours ago and I‘m still sitting in some things.
