Pickpick

A group of small town women meet weekly to eat good food, confess their sins, and support each other. This was a good, heartwarming story. The dialogue felt real, such as how the ladies often interrupted each other during their confessions. The only downside was that I found one of the main story lines to be a little unbelievable. Even so, I enjoyed this book and would definitely read more by this author.

JamieArc I attended a writer‘s workshop hosted by this author. She is a lovely human being. I enjoy her books. 4mo
cinda.marie @JamieArc Sounds like fun. She has so many books! I‘m looking forward to reading more of her stories. 4mo

The glacial landscape reminded her … Sometimes you want to go back and re-read a paragraph just to let it fully sink in. I love it when that happens.

Rita Hayworth & Shawshank Redemption was my favorite, but all four stories intrigued me. Overall, I prefer his full-length novels for various reasons, but this collection of novellas is still very much a pick. Recommended! My #bookspin for August. 📚

I sometimes hesitate to read a book with all sorts of rave reviews. I think it makes me expect too much. But this story kept me on the edge of my seat for three days. It would‘ve been one day, but life got in the way (you know, eating and sleeping). As for the ending, you may guess part of it, but you won‘t guess all. A good story that reminded me a little of Hatter Fox. A few similarities there.

Descent: A Novel | Tim Johnston

Pickpick

A family takes one last vacation before the oldest child heads off to college. Problem is, oldest child disappears on said vacation. This suspenseful read focuses on how each family member copes with grief and while the overall tone of the book was depressing, in the end I was moved by this story. If you like a more character-driven thriller, this book is for you!

MyNamesParadise I remember reading this when it came out and I loved it! 5mo

I needed a break from thrillers and my son offered his beat-up copy of a book he had to read in high school. So far, I am enjoying this new-to-me author and loving this bittersweet story. 🧡

My very small #stephenking collection. Just finished Four Past Midnight and really enjoyed it, but #thestand will always be my favorite!

TheNeverendingTBR The Stand ❤ 1y
TheNeverendingTBR 11.22.63 is also amazing! 1y
KathyWheeler I always recommend 11/22/63 to people who tell me that they don‘t like King. Love that book. 1y

cinda.marie @TheNeverendingTBR @KathyWheeler 11/22/63 is one I haven‘t read yet. I can‘t wait to dig in! 1y
KathyWheeler @cinda.marie There‘s a Hulu tv series as well — it was pretty good. 1y
SheReadsAndWrites I want to read his books SO BAD! (I love his books on writing) But I'm terrified that I'll be terrified. 😬😂 1y
cinda.marie @SheReadsAndWrites 😂 Your comment reminded me of Joey (on Friends) putting The Shining in the freezer bc it terrified him! Maybe start with 11/22/63 or The Stand. They aren‘t quite as scary as most of his others. A shorter one that is not scary is Elevation. 1y
SheReadsAndWrites I love that episode! 😂 Okay. I'll start with 11/22/63. I heard The Dome is good too but really long. 1y

I was going through some old books, deciding which ones I wanted to trade in for credit. Knowing this one was a keeper, I put it back on my shelf, but something fell out. It was an old postcard my mom had sent me while on a business trip to Iowa. I guess I tucked it away and forgot about it. So glad I didn‘t trade it!

I don‘t know if I‘m completely sold on the existence of ghosts, but who really knows? I do enjoy reading about them - that‘s for sure! I was very intrigued by Leslie Rule‘s well-researched stories and I never had the sense that anything was being exaggerated. The photos were an added bonus.

There was something irritatingly self-centered about the cat, Coraline decided. As if it were, in its opinion, the only thing in any world or place that could possibly be of any importance.

Four Past Midnight | Stephen King

Of the four novellas in this book, I chose to read “The Library Policeman” first because the title appealed to me. It was good in the beginning, even humorous at times. But it soon took a dark turn. Too dark for me. If I were to rate the book on this story alone, it might be a thumbs down. But I‘ll keep reading. After all, it‘s Stephen King. It has to be good. 📚

TheNeverendingTBR One I've still to read of Kings, hope you enjoy it! 1y
cinda.marie @TheNeverendingTBR I think I‘ll try “The Langoliers” next. Many people say that one‘s a favorite. 1y
