Miles Morales: Spider-Man | Jason Reynolds

This was so good! Everything that was missing from the comics were included in this novelization of Miles Morales. It‘s great that there‘s more diverse representation in comics and YA, but there needs to be nuance i the characters and their experiences. Miles comes from a working class family but attends a prestigious private HS on scholarship. That combined with being Spider-Man, Miles is up against a lot of pressure. This was an amazing read!

This was actually pretty good. I didn‘t expect to like it as much because previous YA superhero novels (Black Widow Forever Red) I read were anti-climatic. But I like what Leigh Bardugo has done with Diana/WW. I liked how the origin story of Wonder Woman was tweaked because it fits pretty seamlessly with the original origin story. PS: ARC was provided in a goodie bag from Indigo Teen.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of the Valiant from HCC Frenzy, and once I started reading this I couldn't stop. Rome, its politics and its bread and circuses are very much alive in this book. Fallon was a daughter of a Briton king and ends up finds herself as a gladiatrix in Rome. She hopes to earn enough to buy her freedom and return home, but she encounters an expected surprise which leads her to re-evaluate the concept of freedom.

Treated myself to a copy of #AStudyInCharlotte bc I loved it when I read it from the library. And then, I also got three other books 😅

Finished this quite some time ago and forgot to post about it. Long story short, I loved it and have already preordered A Conjuring of Light 😊 However, this did have the second book syndrome. In other words, lots of character development and growth but plot was a bit on the weaker side.

I was curious when I heard Mara Wilson was releasing a book. It's actually a really fun and thoughtful collection of essays. It covers growing up, loss, mental health and living through fear. If you've been curious about this read, it's worth checking out!

I had a lot of fun with this book! But I was a bit disappointed by how some problematic issues in the first book wasn't addressed in this one. I'm curious about what happens next, but the cliffhanger at the end didn't really draw me in.

I loved this so much! It was great seeing Cantonese being incorporated in this book. I loved how strong willed and determined Mercy Wong was. And I loved how community was at the heart of this book. Check it out!

Really enjoyed Spider-Gwen! It was funny, witty, action-packed but also incredibly grounded. In a story where Gwen Stacey was the one bitten by the radio active spider instead of Peter Parker, Gwen is one hell of a superhero! Great place to start her story too 😊

A breath taking fantasy with an amazing cast of characters! I totally understand why people love Kay's works now. I had so many emotional outbursts as I read this, and the ending just warmed my heart. If you love fantasy, I highly recommend this one!

This was a hell of a fairytale retelling! While there was a part of the book I raised my eyebrow at, I overall enjoyed this retelling of beauty and the beast. Really appreciated the twists and turns Maas brought to the table, and the good dose of court intrigue!

This took me by surprise! The characters pay a wonderful homage to the original Holmes and Watson, while being their own unique personalities. A great YA to check out for any Sherlock Holmes fan 😊
