Beautiful! Beautiful! Beautiful! As a biracial girl living in a similar world as McBride, I could real are so deeply to the words. But the wonderful thing about the book is that you don‘t even have to be like McBride to understand what it feels like to not feel like you belong or that life sometimes is working against you. And his mother is soooo AWESOME!!!

Ok so I read the pre-release version, so I can only speak to that. I‘m sure that once it was released there were many changes to it, but the version I read was just dumb. It was so 2-dimensional and was trying so hard to be deep but it just didn‘t. It was an easy read, because the entire thing is written through letters and emails, but it just wasn‘t good.Especially the ending where it forced a big event but didn‘t wrap up the book properly.Meh...

Mehso-so

It was an alright book. It was very innovative in the sense that it was told from the perspective of four characters and in first, second, third omniscient, and third restrictive. It just felt like the book was trying too hard to be smart and meaningful. Don‘t get me wrong though it was very lovely, there was just no good moral at the end of it to really make it worth reading in the end.
