Grabbed at random from my horrifyingly large, two-full-height-billys, paperback tbr. I‘m kinda in the mood for more actiony stuff after ‘Beyond the Ice Limit‘ though (I was good and didn‘t acquire the first two of those).
Enjoyable overall, although I‘d read several of them before - the one pictured is an updated version of the one tagged. The Vicki Nelson books were my first foray into urban fantasy back in the nineties (I‘m still weirdly mad that the adaptation made Henry a tall, dark, graphic novelist, instead of a short, ginger, romance novelist. Not all vampires have to look good in black, yk?)
The replacement mp3-reader (‘purse kindle‘ bothers me for reasons I cannot word). I‘m supposed to be reading through my vast tbr of paperbacks, but wanted to check this thing works okay. Got through the book in a day, so I think I‘m good 😄
Ridiculous pulpy action, which is exactly what I was looking for tbh. Would probably have been better if I‘d read the first two books though
A crazy and occasionally infuriating read. It only lightly skimmed what went down with FTX, but gave a good overview of everything else that was going on at the time.
A quote: I couldn‘t believe that every day, people sent millions of perfectly good US dollars to the Inspector Gadget creator‘s Bahamian bank in exchange for digital tokens conjured by the Mighty Ducks guy and run by executives who were targets of a US criminal investigation.
Started this book at random. I‘m testing out an mp3-reader (I can‘t with calling these ‘purse kindles‘). This particular one is going back because the seller lied about the OS (claimed android 13 when it‘s actually android 8. The kobo app requires minimum android 9). It fits my needs otherwise (it needs a ‘paperlike‘ screen protector and a lanyard, but otherwise…), so I‘ll be replacing it once it‘s refunded.
Next up, also for #memereadingchallenge This one‘s been on my shelf forever. I remember liking the Relic books (and the movie. All I ask of a book or movie is that it be what it says on the tin).
It was… fine? Not bad, but I think I struggled with the exposition dumps, mostly. IDK if I‘ll pick up the others.
I‘m starting to struggle with this one. TBH, I‘d have probably put it back in the tbr if it wasn‘t for #memereadingchallenge but I‘m gonna try to power through.
A terrible, terrible photo of what will (hopefully) be my only book haul this year. I‘m a sucker for 2nd hand/clearance bookshops.
Went to my writing group today despite being unable to type or hold a pen (IDK what I‘ve touched, but the skin on my knuckles is peeling off in like, chunks…) Took the opportunity to reread this excellent resource.
After a manic three weeks of tidying, painting, and stripping away carpet, it feels like I‘m finally able to start my year. Comfy new couch, check. Cup of tea, check. Chill playlist, check. Blanket, check. First book for #memereadingchallenge, check. Bit of a headache from the residual smell of paint… unfortunately also check, but let‘s do this!
Managed to clock in 80 mins reading today (after a few disastrous years where ‘every day‘ and ‘# of books‘ goals seem to have actively interfered with my reading, I‘m going to try a variable ‘hours per week‘ and hope for the best.)
This one‘s going pretty well, tbh. I‘d have kept reading if a headache hadn‘t started looming.
