Earth Abides | George Rippey Stewart

I really wanted to like this book, but for some reason it just wasn't working for me. I really disliked the narrator's haughty superiority ... and I know the book was written in the fifties, but the blatant sexism just made me dislike it even more. Didn't want to waste my time slogging through something I didn't enjoy whatsoever.

This book was another university course assignment, but I greatly enjoyed it ... as much as you can enjoy reading a book about society's impending doom, anyway. Throughout the trading experience, I felt a creeping sense of unease about the uncanny ability of Neil Postman to predict a lot of the things that happened in the 2016 American election ... back in 1985.

It took me months to finish this audiobook, but it was a delightful journey I'm glad I took. Some parts interested me far more than others, but the narrator was excellent and his voices compelling (especially Minerva!) I'd almost recommend listening the audiobook over reading it, for this reason alone. Song pick: "How's It Gonna End" by Tom Waits.

Revisited one of my favourites these past few weeks. I'd forgotten just how much of a treat reading Graceling is - I love the character of Katsa, and for the most part the pacing of this book makes it hard to put down. Exactly what I needed! Song pick: Self Control by Kate Boy.

This was a really fun book! It was a good read - maybe not the most jaw-dropping, but I flew through it and enjoyed every moment. I might even keep reading the other books in the series. Song pick: "The Other Side" by Pendulum.

I read this book for a university course and blew through it. I won't spoil anything, but it's such a beautifully complex book. The twists were jaw dropping, but what will stick with me the most are the characters and the feelings the generations-long story of the Blythe family evoked in me. Such a sad but tender book. I will be coming back to this one. Song pick: "Family and Genus" by Shakey Graves.
