pickWhen I was a child i had watched the movie (which i think was actually a TV show put on VHS) on repeat from my local library. During COVID my online book club picked this book and the new movie as one of our books of the month. I thoroughly enjoyed the book! The original movie went much closer to the book btw but in the end that's not what's important here. This book is a classic and a darn good one!
so-soI admire Terry Brooks but this story obviously did not consider the actual survival rate of Leukemia and made cancer recovery magical and inspirational. I know this probably was written in an era when inspiration stories were not seen as ableist, but that doesn't change the fact that one cannot “positive thought“ cancer away. One cannot slay the dragon of cancer without proper treatment. It was indeed a strange story.
I been reading more fantasy to help inspire me as I write my own. This one is a short story. Strange so far.
pickThis follow up to the first was twice as epic a story. Loved it!
