I was hesitant to read another WWII book but this one is historical fiction and based on the many stellar reviews I decided to read it. It‘s okay. Lale and Gita have an amazing story of survival and love, but the writing style just didn‘t grab me.

Reminded me a bit of the movie “Searching”. Sad book overall but I liked the way it moved back and forth between past and present and each characters perspectives. Interesting topic about how Asians were viewed years ago and the bias especially with mixed race couples/kids. Touches briefly also on being gay in that era (late 1970‘s).

I liked the way each chapter was each main character telling the story and it was a page turner. Totally fiction of course and that was part of the appeal, some unrealistic events. Hated the ending.... ugh left me feeling... ugh!

Was recommended by my BIL who eventually succumbed to cholangiocarcinoma. Such a detailed and interesting book into cancer history and research and hope for the future of cancer treatments. I‘ll want to go back to this again since it‘s so dense and I‘m sure I‘ve missed parts of the book that were “sciencey” and I should read again. But much of it is written in language that is meant for non-medical people to understand.

Another fun and “light” read.

Loved this one! Great insight into a world I know so little about. Navy Seals and those in the military heroes all of them in my opinion.

Mehso-so

Read this for one of my book groups. It was “meh”. Lots of plot twists and drama, but a predictable storyline in general with people in the main character‘s life not being who she thought they were and lots of “secrets” misinterpreted and then resolved.

Such a delightful book to read. While the topic was a little heavy, it was so well written I couldn‘t put it down. Eleanor was a funny and interesting character and I love the friendship she developed with Raymond. Very sweet book.
