I Hunt Killers | Barry Lyga

Fiction, Mystery
12/14/2019-12/16/2019
This book was recommended to me by a friend from dance. The book follows Jasper 'Jazz' Dent, the son of infamous serial killer Billy Dent. When Billy is thrown into a high security prison, Jazz is left to deal with the trauma of his father raising Jazz to be just like Billy-- a serial killer. When a body appears near Lobo's Nod, Jazz teams up with the police to prove that he's not like his father
pages: 384

manononosa Who is the protagonist?: The protagonist of 'I Hunt Killers' is Jasper Dent, more commonly referred to as 'Jazz'.
Conflict: Because of the fact that Jazz was taught by Billy to view other people as insignificant and disposable, he internally struggles with the part of him that wants to kill others, solely because of how he was brought up into the world. Throughout the book, there were many implications of the fact that Jazz might turn like his dad
(edited) 4y
manononosa Resolution: The book sets itself up for a sequel, with Billy escaping prison and with Jazz finding out the culprit of the sudden murders. 4y

Summary: Marin plans to spend her winter break alone until Mabel flies thousands of miles to see her again and offer her a place to stay back at home. Together, they learn to deal with Marin's grief and past as they also figure out their feelings for each other.
pg: 236

manononosa Who is the protagonists?: Marin is the protagonist.
What is her problem?: Marin moves away from her home once her grandfather dies in an act of severe grief. She does not bother to contact anyone from home, and seemingly loses herself, becoming a shell of what she used to be. When the beginning of winter break arrives, her best friend, Mabel, flies to see her. Now, she has to deal with the consequences of leaving everything behind, along with the

Fantasy
10/03/2019-12/10/2019
How did I choose this book: This was highly praised for the way both main characters were written as morally grey. This intrigued me into buying it
Summary: Victor and Eliot start out as roommates in college, but after finding out that they shared interests in certain topics, their experiments on these topics turn deadly. 10 years later, Victor is out of jail and ready to reunite with his former friend.
pages: 368

manononosa Who are the protagonists?: The main characters of Vicious are Victor Vale and Eliot 'Eli' Cardale. Both characters are not your typical fantasy protagonist, both being morally grey with questionable perspectives. Once Victor and Eli gain their powers as EOs (individuals with supernatural powers), their true nature of controversial morals come out and they end up as enemies. (edited) 4y
manononosa Problem: Once Eli betrays Victor due to the fact that he believed a devil was wearing Victor's skin, Victor is thrown in jail after a brutal fight. Now, Eli has gained a god complex due to his regenerative abilities and his belief that he put himself in God's hands, his new goal now being to wipe out all EOs that he views are unnatural, even though he is also an EO. Victor is hatching a plan to get revenge on Eli and kill him. (edited) 4y
manononosa How was the problem resolved?: After 10 years of waiting, Victor breaks out of prison with the help of a new ally, Mitch, and stumbles upon a 12 year old girl, Sydney, who is an EO that can revive the dead. He finds out that she was betrayed by her sister (another EO) and Eli, who shot her in an attempt to kill her. Victor promises that he won't let Eli hurt her anymore, earning Sydney's trust. The three of them go against Eli and Serena-- 4y
manononosa --Sydney's sister. Things seem to be in favour of Victor's side for the majority of the fight, but once Victor faces Eli, he finds that he is no match for Eli's regenerative powers. Eli kills Victor, shocking both Mitch and Sydney, who were both confident that Victor would be the one to come out alive. The police find Eli and Victor's body, and decides that Eli is insane, due to his persistent shouting that he is the hero and saved the day-- 4y
manononosa -- Eli is then arrested. A few nights later, Sydney, Mitch, and a few other minor characters that Victor convinced to be his ally go to the cemetery where Victor's corpse was buried. Sydney finds his grave and digs him out of the coffin. Using her powers, she revives him. (edited) 4y

Young Adult Fiction
09/12/2019-10/02/2019
Why I chose the book: I was looking at a book recommendation list and found this book on the list. The summary it gave made it seem as though the events that happen could relate to a few people's lives.
Summary: The book follows the lives of fraternal twins Jude and Noah Sweetwine at several ages in their teen years as they grow up and learn about their emotions, art, and life.
pages: 371

manononosa Who are the protagonists?: The protagonists of this story are Jude and Noah Sweetwine. The book gives the readers the perspective of both teens, switching from different periods in their teen years. 4y
manononosa What was their problem?: In Noah's case, his problem was coming to terms with his feelings and sexuality, and in general, his identity. He often feels like he doesn't fit in, with his only safe space being his artistic qualities. When the twin's mother dies, he not only loses his safe space, but loses his first love. It is seen in Jude's perspective that he becomes closed off and a typical jock, making Jude wonder where the old Noah went. 4y
manononosa In Jude's case, she had to deal with the guilt of their mom's death, along with the guilt of being accepted into the art school Noah got rejected by. She eventually becomes a shell of who she used to be due to unfortunate events with a boy, and swears that she won't get involved with boys again. She also believes that she is being haunted by the angry ghost of her dead mom, and is desperate to find a way to make a piece that will satisfy her mom. 4y
manononosa How was the problem resolved?: Noah eventually finds a new medium that he enjoys, and brings himself to enjoy art again. He also comes to terms with his sexuality and fully accepts it, and reconciles with his first love to try again. Jude realizes that their mother did love and accept her, and she finds comfort in her mentor and Oscar, her love interest. All in all, the twins find their way back to the path they were supposed to take. 4y
