I love Chicago, books and basketball. I study racism and health policy. I read books about this and other stuff.

I needed a light read and this exceeded my expectations. I am not sure what I am reading, but it is good - very good. So far the stories are hilarious, clever and insightful. The part in the first story about Jesus getting a message from himself was brilliantly funny.

Yesterday I stepped outside and into a store to pick up something special.

“Normal... I wonder what that is.”(p54)

I feel like Octavia Butler is looking down, saying “I tried to tell y‘all.”

I‘m 5 chapters in. A lot of interesting themes are popping out already. Three stand out. The first is faith, esp. how do we define and hold on to faith in troubling times. The second is radical imagination, in particular, what is it and what do we do with it. The third is normalcy - Is it a myth? Is it a cover for something else?
